WEEK THREE!!

Well hey!
So, i've decided this week to do a lovely twenty track mix tape devoted entirely to music from the UK. I would have said English, but i want to chuck in Belle & Sebastian too. So, i hope you enjoy this. Its really just a time line of fabulous UK acts. I've tried to do the order in a listening-to-able way, so that the songs following each other don't contrast. At the same time, its KIND OF chronological. Is my OCD coming through? Oh well. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. And feel free to throw suggestions at me for what you want next week! Pick a theme, pick a theme!

Without further ado -

WEEK TWO!

In accordance with the ridiculously indecisive weather we've been having, i've decided to do 2 different 10 track mix tapes. One being for the sunny, happy, upbeat weather. The other for the rainy, calm weather. And my rainy mix tape is not going to be depressing. If you want depressing, go and slit your wrists on your smashed MCR CDs. Anyway, get these two mixtapes, and use them where appropriate. Lets kick off sunsheee-iiine [Oasis quote] mixtape first.

Sunshine Mixtape
Doing it a bit differently this week, going to talk about the mixtape as a whole before i post it! Means i don't have to interrupt it for you. Personally, i like this. I think that its a collection of upbeat, happy happy tunes. Whats the problem with that? A lot of them [okay, all of them] are a bit 'five minutes ago'. A term which i have never used before, but apparently am using now. Still, i have no probem celebrating the past. Its better than celebrating the dull, samey same pop charts of today.

1) I Got You - James Brown.

2) I Wanna Hold Your Hand - The Beatles.

3) Town Called Malice - The Jam.

4) Substitute - The Who.

5)  Cruel To Be Kind - Letters To Cleo.

6) Paper Planes - M.I.A.

7) Monster Hospital - Metric.

8) Beautiful Day - U2.

9) Country House - Blur.

10) You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oates.

Rainy Time Mixtape

I don't know about you, but rainy weather just makes me want to sit and do nothing. So, this playlist is basically just a playlist to listen to while you sit and do nothing. Calm, dulcet, accoustic. You can use this to calm down OR as a sleeping mixtape. Either way, I hope you enjoy!

1) Superstar - Sonic Youth

2) Doll Parts - Hole

3) Day Too Soon - Sia

4) Swim Until You Can't See Land - Frightened Rabbit

5) Expectations - Belle & Sebastian

6) Lover I Don't Have To Love - Bright Eyes

7) Baby I Love Your Way - Peter Frampton

8) Son Of A Preacher Man - Etta James

9) I Melt With You - Nouvelle Vague
[FABULOUS]

10)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVIxKxisr74

Trust me, its one of the best covers I've heard. EVER.

Hope you enjoyed this weeks double mix tape!
Feedback et cetera welcomed!

WEEK ONE.

It is Sunday 21st August 2010.

This is my first post, allow me to explain what I'll be doing.

I'm going to give you a 20 song Mix Tape every week. It'll be just a list of tracks until you get them on your spotify or download them [legally, naturally] and listen to them. The order i do them in is just the order I'd listen to the Mix Tape in, and in this day of shuffling who am I to deny you the right to flick from track 7 to 13? WHO AM I? No one. So listen to it in whatever order you want, and enjoy! I'll write a bit about WHY i like the song as well, otherwise i might as well just thrust a list of songs at your face on some public transport.

1) My Girls - Animal Collective.

Its a bit of a slow starter, and its a bit of a long song with a few lyrics. I get that. And I'll say right now that I'm not a hipster. The reason i like this song is something you'll understand when you're got the lyrics in your head and you're doing hand claps off the top. Its sort of like when you were in primary school and all started doing "London's Burning" at different times to harmonise. But SO much better. "I don't need to seem like i care about material things...."

2) Here Comes Your Man - Pixies.

There is nothing wrong with this song. I've looked at it from so many different angles. It takes no time at all to get into it. The lyrics are fabulous. The guitar riff is catchy. More than catchy, infectious. If you haven't heard it yet - listen to it now. If you haven't listened to it in a while - now is the time to root that old pixies album, dust it off and press the replay button!

3) Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard - Paul Simon.

This song isn't new. It has an unbelievably small amount in common with the UK TOP 40 CHART. And thank God! Its refreshingly catchy, upbeat and simple! You don't have to listen to it a few times to get into it, and you can sing along with it and not sound *THAT* bad! What more can you want?!

4) Fuck The Pain Away - Peaches.

It was a wildcard, okay? I like it. It might not be your cup of tea, but i like her outrageousness and song style. If you don't like this one, try Operate. I've yet to meet someone who doesn't like Operate. So this one's swappable. But its still Peaches.

5) The Cave - Mumford and Sons.

There's not a lot i can say. Beautiful voice, beautiful guitar, beautiful lyrics. The rhythm of the song and singing is absolutely perfect. If you don't like this song - leave now.

6) Fucking Boyfriend - The Bird And The Bee.

An amazing band, which i urge you to further listen to. I adore their writing style and the instruments they use. The songs are catchy, always upbeat and you can dance to on your own while you sing along. Guaranteed to cheer you up! Buy this self-titled album!

7) Cherry Lips - Garbage.

Garbage are one of those bands with attitude that i admire from the 90s. They don't scream like Hole, and they're almost like Letters To Cleo. But at the same time... not. Give them a listen, this song in particular you'll a) have heard before b) remember the lyrics to c) instantly like. You're welcome. Go baby go go... We're right behind you.

8) Australia - The Shins.

I have nothing to say about this. They're already fantastic. Almost Pixies-like. Happy and upbeat, the sort of song you'd like as your alarm so you can wake up in a fantastic mood all day.

9) Reptilia - The Stokes.

Thankyou, second hand Guitar Hero for making this song come to my attention again.

10) The Blues Are Still Blue - Belle & Sebastian.

Typical Belle & Sebastian - So perfect it makes you want to hug everyone.

11) Hotel Yorba - The White Stripes

Not that Icky Thump sound AT ALL. Infact, something different all together. Something fabulous.

[You may have guessed i can't be bothered talking about these songs any more, thats true. Just listen to them.]

12) Volcano Girls - Veruca Salt.

Are you in a 90s girl band? You'll want to be after this. Even you, dad.

13) Gold Guns Girls - Metric.

I love metric, and always have really. They've got a fantastic sound that you can listen to through the whole album. This one being one of my favourites. It makes you want to start jumping up and down a little bit. Or at least bop your head.

14) Us - Regina Spektor.

This woman is absolutely amazing. Amazingly talented and amazingly querky. Enjoy!

15) This Charming Man - The Smiths.

I have nothing to say. This one is optional if you think Morrissey is a twat. Meanwhile, i wear his glasses.

16) The Con - Tegan and Sara.

If you know me, you know how much i love these twin sisters. They're amazingly talented and their harmonies in both the way they sing and the wide varieties of instruments involved in their music is really shown in this song. This particular song written by Tegan Quin, but still featuring Sara Quin. They have released a new album after "The Con", with this song being the obvious title track. I urge anyone to get into this band.

17) Friday I'm In Love - The Cure.

Need lifting up from that bad mood? Just want something easy to listen to? Look no further. You're welcome.

18) Up The Bracket - The Libertines.

And now for something contrasting that last track... But something that you like in your car/in the car/on the bus/blaring out of your bedroom windows.

19) Heaven Tonight - Hole.

C'mon, give it a chance. No screaming. Just good guitar, amazing lyrics and a catchy song in general. It'll make you see that Courtney Love can do more than just stumble up and down red carpets. She's famous for a reason, people! [If you don't believe she's still got it, take a listen to "Nobodys Daughter"]

20) Bloody Nose - Maybe Smith.

The perfect end to a perfect mixtake.

Any questions, let me know!
